redeeming the time, because the days are evil
It is 83 degrees on a Friday afternoon here in Western Michigan. Everything is drying up. Soon we will be dust blowing in the wind. I got up this morning around 7:49 AM. When I came upstairs Carol was getting ready for the day. She left to fold church bulletins around 9:25 AM. I spent the morning writing in my paper diary, reading Denis the Carthusian, and I filmed a video for my Youtube site. Carol got home around 12:15 PM. Carol just left to do an errand. I read this morning Denis the Carthusian on Psalm 75-"[10] All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted." Ps. 75:10 [1] Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. [2] When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. [3] The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. [4] I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: [5] Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. [6] For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. [7] But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. [8] For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. [9] But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. [10] All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. I plan to mow our lawn late afternoon today. I have been reading this afternoon, 'Journeying' travel writings by Claudio Magris Translated from the Italian by Anne Milano Appel. There is not much else to report this afternoon. I will close to drift. I am expecting today for Amazon to deliver a book I had ordered the other day. Last night I finished reading, 'Danube' travel by Claudio Magris. I am still reading, 'Zuckerman Unbound' A Novel by Philip Roth and 'Young Bloomsbury' by Nino Strachey. In reading 'Young Bloomsbury' I keep remembering these verses from Paul's Epistle to the Ephsians-"[3] But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; [4] Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. [5] For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [6] Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." Ephesians 5:3-6 Sad to write these young bloomsbries were children of the devil-very wicked-ungodly "children of disobedience". In reading 'Young Bloomsbury' I think sometimes I am reading porn. I should stop reading it and let it sit/Did Not Finish DNF. I will close to drift. Tomorrow is a Saturday. "[1] Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; [2] And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. [3] But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; [4] Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. [5] For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [6] Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. [7] Be not ye therefore partakers with them. [8] For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: [9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) [10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. [11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. [12] For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. [13] But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. [14] Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. [15] See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, [16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. [17] Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. [18] And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; [20] Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; [21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God." Ephesians 5:1-21
