the sweetness of interior contemplation

the sweetness of interior contemplation

It is now 2:18 PM on my day off from work-the house is quiet and I have been doing nothing but reading my books-I have been reading these books for afternoon devotions-"Truth Or Consequences: The Promise & Perils of Postmodernism" by Millard J. Erickson, "The Message Of Salvation" by Philip G. Ryken and "A Better Way: Rediscovering The Drama Of God-Centered Worship" by Michael Horton. I recently ordered a new book by Horton titled "Covenant and Eschatology: The Divine Drama" I look forward to getting this book for my collection-so my day off goes by quietly.

Today is the day before Resurrection Sunday-this is the day the Lord laid in the tomb-He was crucified on a Friday and placed in the tomb Friday evening and laid there till Sunday-I believe the Lord on this day descended into Hades and displayed before the demonic world His kingly power-He had by His Cross death overthrown the devil and the demonic angels-these verses come to my mind from the New Testament-"having wiped out the handwriting of requirement that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it" Colossians 2:14,15-"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through waters. There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him" 1 Peter 3:18-22

Josiah just walked through the door-he is home for Resurrection Sunday-I will close to visit with my second son.
