glorycloud's Diaryland Diary

the last hurrah

It is 1:31 PM Thursday afternoon here where I live out my Life Span. It is 71 degrees and mostly cloudy. This morning we had some rain showers, but right now it is simply warm and cloudy.

Carol left this morning with friends to visit a fellow friend (all friends are retired nurses). I spent the morning writing in my paper diary and reading from a book I received in the mail yesterday titled, 'Pierced By Love: Divine Reading With The Christian Tradition' by Hans Boersma. I left the house around 12 o'clock Noon to visit local thrift stores in search of used books to ADD to my book collection. I found these used books today for our library-

'The Last Hurrah' A Novel by Edwin O'Connor

'Theodore Roosevelt: A Strenuous Life' biography by Kathleen Dalton

'Amiel's Journal: The Journal Intime Of Henri-Frederic Amiel' Translated With An Introduction And Notes By Mrs. Humphry Ward Two Volumes

'The Miscellaneous Works Of Oliver Goldsmith With Biographical Introduction By Professor Masson

'The Adams Family' biography by James Truslow Adams

'Herman Melville' biography by Lewis Mumford

'A Change of Skies' A Novel by Yasmine Gooneratne

'The Living Temple: George Herbert and Catechizing' By Stanley Fish

'Les Liaisons Dangeruses' A Novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos Introduction and Notes by Alfred Mac Adam Translated by Ernest Dowson

'The Heat Of The Day' A Novel by Elizabeth Bowen

'The Education Of Henry Adams' by Henry Adams

'Selected Writings' Hildegard Of Bingen Translated with an introduction and notes by Mark Atherton

'Donne's Anniversaries And The Poetry Of Praise The Creation Of A Symbolic Mode' by Barbara Kiefer Lewalski

'The Forgotten History of America: Little-Known Conflicts of Lasting Importance from the Earlies Colonists to the Eve of the Revolution by Cormac O'Brien

'The Flight of the Falcon' A Novel by Daphne Du Maurier

'Coming Into The Country' Travel essays by John McPhee

When I got home from wandering the scorched earth I ate lunch and catalogued the used books I found today at two local thrift stores-Action House and Goodwill. Carol is now home and I will close to wait.
