the order of salvation

It is 2:38 PM Tuesday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is 45 degrees and sunny this afternoon. It is a blessing to feel sun rays on ones decaying body.

I got up this morning around 7:20 AM. We left to drive over to Grandville first to pick up our taxes and then drove into Grand Rapids to visit Baker Book House and Reformation Heritage Books. Baker Book House opens around 7 o'clock AM so we got there around 9:30 AM. Baker Book House is a large Christian bookstore that sells new and used Christian books. While we were at Baker's I refrained myself and bought only two books (because I knew we were also visiting Reformation Heritage Books)-

'Engaging The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit: Love and Gift in the Trinity and the Church' by Matthew Levering ($47.00)

'The Federal Theology of Jonathan Edwards: An Exegetical Perspective' by Gilsun Ryu [Studies In Historical & Systematic Theology] ($30.00)

Carol also bought some books while we at Baker Book House. We have been buying books from Baker Book House going on 45 years. In the old days I would drive over to Baker Book House on my days off from work and spend usually around $300.00 dollars. New Christian books are very expensive these days! Because Christian books are so expensive I would never sell any of my Christian books because I can not afford to replace them.

After Baker Book House we drove over to Reformation Heritage Book and I bought these Christian books-

'An Exposition of the Apostle's Creed' Caspar Olevianus (1536-1587) Translated by Lyle D. Bierma Introduced by R. Scott Clark (when we were students at Reformed Bible College Grand Rapids MI back in the late 70's I had Dr. Bierma for a Professor for Reformed Theology)

'The Lord's Supper-Eternal Word In Broken Bread' by Robert Letham

'The Holy Spirit' by Geoffrey Thomas

'Piety's Wisdom: A Summary of Calvin's Institutes with Study Questions' by J. Mark Beach

'Knowing Sin: Seeing A Neglected Doctrine Through The Eyes Of The Puritans' by Mark Jones

'By Faith, Not by Sight: Paul And The Order Of Salvation' by Richard B. Gaffin Jr.

After we visited Reformation Heritage Books (we spent $85.00 dollars) we visited two thrift stores to look at their used books. I found these used books today at two thrift stores-

'Love Warps The Mind A Little' A Novel by John Dufresne

'The Lazarus Project' A Novel by Aleksandar Hemon

'Pearl' A Novel by Mary Gordon

'Dear Mr. Fantasy: Diary of a Decade: Text & Photographs' by Ethan A. Russell
The author was a college student in California during the '60s, heyday of psychedelia, then moved on to Swinging London and photographed such supergroups as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who. His sensitive memoir of those years evokes vividly the essence of a generation that "welcomed Mr. Fantasy into our lives with a sense of joy and celebration." Although Russell acknowledges that many people were burned out by the '60s (indeed, he knew some of the famous casualties), he nevertheless believes that the personal and social changes spawned by that turbulent decade were necessary. "In retrospect, people often seem embarrassed by that time," he writes. "But, really, so much was accomplished." Russell tells many entertaining stories about working with the artistocracy of rock; his anecdotes unite with more than 300 of his splendid photographs to create a detailed history of an extraordinary period in popular musicand to pay eloquent tribute to "the spirit that moved us all." We headed back home after visiting thrift stores. We were home by 1 o'clock PM and now it is 3:01 PM. It is time for me to jump ship.

Last night I mainly read 'Leaving the Sea' Stories by Ben Marcus. Do not know what comes next, so I will close.
