God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself

It is 10:41 AM Wednesday morning here in West Michigan. It is a cold damp gray foggy morning. It is hard to believe it has been predicted to be sunny by Noontime today. Right now the earth is blanketed in a cold gray fog. Maybe the earth is cover with smoke from a Nuclear War?

I got up this morning around 7 o'clock AM. I came upstairs to find my wife reading her Bible. I made a fresh pot of coffee and messed with our main computer. After responding to comments on my videos I cooked myself two eggs for breakfast. Carol left this morning to have an early Brunch with old girlfriends in South Haven. I have spent the morning writing in my paper diary and reading from a book titled, 'The Cross Of Jesus' by Louis Chardon, O.P. Edited by Paul Jerome Keller, O.P..

Last night I read till I went to bed from these two books-

'Dissident Gardens' A Novel by Jonathan Lethem

'America And The Cult Of The Cactus Boots: A Diagnostic' By Phillip Freedenberg Visuals By : Jeff Walton

I do not know what I will do the rest of this day. It is too cold and foggy to travel anywhere today. If was a warm sunny day I would go take a walk at Upper Natural Area for a long walk.

I will close to write and read. I might read from a new Puritan reprint titled, 'The Abuse of God's Grace' By Nicolas Claget (1610-1661). The last thing I read in this book is this-

"God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19). When we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son (Romans 5:10). The propitiatory, atoning sacrifice of Christ's death in putting away God's destructive wrath is rich grace. Yet even this is injured. Reconciliation with God stands with agreement with Satan in many. In them peace with God and sin kiss each other, as if a league with heaven and hell could stand together. Seditious persons who are reconciled to their Prince abuse His goodness when, at the same time, they are traitorous friends with His enemies, hold intelligence with them, do homage to them, are ruled by them and propagate their dominions, and are the picture of those wanton traitors who abuse God's reconciling grace.

Reconciling grace is that grace of God whereby He is reconciled to the sinner and the sinner to Him, begets a universal peace with all His laws and methods of holiness, and wages war with sin. At whatever time friendship is commenced between God and the soul, war is waged and maintained against sin. Reconciliation and alteration go together. Turning away God's wrath from the sinner and turning the heart of the sinner are undivided. What pleases a pacified God pleases the sons of peace. When the face of God shines in smiles of peace, the laws of God are favors, nor offenses; privileges, not burdens; sweet delights, not unpleasing tasks; the liberty, not the prison of really pacified believers. "Great peace have they which love Thy law, and nothing shall offend them" (Psalm 119:165). The Romans who had peace with God stood in this gospel grace and were engaged to be holy, not allowed to be libertines. The exercises of graces, nor allowances to lusts, were the fruits of this heavenly reconciliation (Romans 5:10-11). It is a choice blessing purchased by Christ's death (Romans 5). They are blessed who are reconciled by Him and not offended in Him (Matthew 11:6). But they who refuse the laws of His government never yet had the joy of atonement; though they pleasingly vote themselves the friends of God, they will be made, to their own smart, to know that it is one thing to be reconciled when enemies; it is another thing to be reconciled and abide as enemies. No enemies to the laws of Christ and gospel holiness were ever actually reconciled; they are yet under wrath who are under the reign of sin. Let them consider it who take up, keep, and use arms of hostility against the God of peace. Thoughts of reconciliation may be pleasing, but they will be a vanishing dream. Divine pacification is necessary in order to have communion. Libertines cannot walk with God and see His smiles who turn back upon God and hate His laws." pg. 43,44 Nicolas Claget 'The Abuse of God's Grace'
