glorycloud's Diaryland Diary

the imperial cult made conflict with Christians inevitable

It is 12:12 PM Tuesday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is cloudy gray warm extremely windy day. It is predicted to rain this evening.

Carol and I both got up this morning around 5:15 AM. We were up early because we had gone to bed early. So I got up drank a cup of coffee and messed with our main computer. In the mornings I read the News on our main computer and check for e-mail. I do not recall watching any Booktube videos this morning. After messing with our main computer I wrote in my paper diary and read for awhile from a book titled, 'Christ's Prayer Before His Passion-Expository Sermons on John 17' Volume 1 by Anthony Burgess. I read for a couple of hours then I dozed for awhile/morning dreaming in my living room easy chair. I woke myself around 9:15 AM to have breakfast and write some more in my paper diary.

I wrote in my paper diary and then read till Noon from a book I received in the mail yesterday titled, 'The First One Hundred Years of Christianity-An Introduction To Its History, Literature, And Development' by Udo Schnelle Translated By James W. Thompson. I have these others books by Udo Schnelle in our library-

'The Human Condition: Anthropology in the Teachings of Jesus, Paul, and John' by Udo Schnelle Translated by O.C. Dean Jr.

'Apostle Paul: His Life and Theology' by Udo Schnelle Translated by M. Eugene Boring

'Theology of The New Testament' by Udo Schnelle Translated by M. Eugene Boring

I also received in the mail yesterday these books-

'Ottoline Morrell-Life on the Grand Scale' biography by Miranda Seymour

'The First One Hundred Years of Christianity-An Introduction To Its History, Literature, And Development' by Udo Schnelle Translated By James W. Thompson

'Reformed Systematic Theology-Man and Christ' Volume 2 by Joel R. Beeke & Paul M. Smalley

'Ralph Waldo Emerson-Selected Journals 1820-1842' [The Library of America]

'Ralph Waldo Emerson-Selected Journals 1841-1877' [The Library of America]

This morning Carol visited our local library to pick up books for her one of her Woman's Book Club and bought these two used books-

'The Avenger Takes His Place: Andrew Johnson and the 45 Days That Changed the Nation' by Howard Means

'American Brutus: John Wilkes Booth And The Lincoln Conspiracies' by Michael W. Kauffman

Last night I read my books and went to bed with Carol around 10 o'clock PM. Now it is 12:31 PM Tuesday afternoon. Not sure what I will read this afternoon. I should read The First Book of Samuel/Old Testament/Bible. Well I will close to listen to the wind howl through the trees.

"[ III] Thirdly, The godly man is discovered not to be of the world, by his constant life and conversation; He doth not live as one that takes this world for his home,* They declare by their words and actions they seek for another Countrey, Heb. 11. As the Israelites were to manifest the Wildernesses was not a place for them to abide in but Canaan: Hence Rom. 12.1. They are not conformed to the fashion of this world, They are as Pilgrims and Strangers, They are in the world as bright Stars in a dark night, so that this doth necessarily imply a singularity and exactnesse in the godly mans life comparatively to the world; Men of the world are proud, earthly, brutish, running into all pleasures, and following all excesse of riot, but they dare not do so, so that there cannot be a surer symptom that thou art still of the world then by speaking, doing, and living as most in the world do, 2 Pet. 3.6, Even those that have but a common bare profession of the Christian faith are said to escape the pollutions of the world; Though Godliness should not have a deep impression on you, though it should not go to the root and bottom, yet if it hath made any impression at all, if it hath gone but to the skin, if you have heard of it but by the ear only, it should make thee avoid such pollutions, Jam. 1.17. What saith the Apostle James, Pure Religion is to keep a man unspotted from the world; Pure Religion; There is a generation of devils rather then men that mock and deride at purity; Thus the Apostle saith there must be a pure Religion, and this pure Religion is to keep us unspotted from the world; That doth imply the world to be some lothsome noisome dunghill, that a man cannot be in it, but he is ready to get soil and filth upon him; how many trust to sin, come and do as we do, will you be so pure? but whether will you believe the Word of God or the devil tempting by such beastly Instruments?" Anthony Burgess Sermon 31
