glorycloud's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God's saving action in Christ It is 9:19 AM Monday morning in the flow of redemptive history. My wife just left to visit a sister-in-law and to do errands. I have been sitting in our dining room reading for morning devotions a book titled, "The Acts of the Risen Lord Jesus: Luke's account of God's unfolding plan" by Alan J. Thompson. I plan to leave the house around 9:50 AM to drive to VanRaalte Farm to set a chipmunk free and then I will visit thrift stores in search of used books to add to our library. A neighbor across the street is moving today to a retirement place. These neighbors are elderly and have sold their house to a fellow who use to live next door to us when we first moved into our home 24 years ago. People who have grown up in Holland tend to move back after being gone for awhile. I hope we never move out of this house. I want to grow old and die in this house. But who knows what the future holds for Carol and I. There might come a time when we will have to let go all earthly ties and go peacefully into the presence of the Lord Jesus (Acts 7:59,60). Last night I mainly watched television and went to bed around 11 o'clock PM. Now it is another day. Well I will close with this quote from the book, "The Acts Of The Risen Lord Jesus"- "Although apostolic preaching focuses on God's plans and purposes and culminates in the accomplishment of his saving purposes in the death and resurrection of Christ, the implications and significance of God's saving action in Christ are always highlighted. In this sense, the proclamation of the good news of God saving action in Christ is always accompanied with warnings and promises and an appeal to respond in repentance and faith. Warnings are given because estrangement from God, opposition to God, and idolatry against God bring judgment. Thus in Acts 2 the name of the Lord must be called upon in order for a person to be saved from judgment on the day of the Lord (Acts 2:21,40,47), and those who opposed to the Lord Jesus are his enemies and members of a 'corrupt generation' who will one day be judged (Acts 2:35,40). In Acts 3 the audience must repent so that sins might be wiped out (3:19), Christ will return (3:20-21), but all who do not listen to him will be completely cut off (3:23). In Acts 10 and 17 Christ is declared to be the judge who will one day judge 'the living and the dead' (10:42) and 'the world with justice' (17:31). In Acts 13:40 warning is given in the light of the judgment spoken of by the prophets." pg. 95 Alan J.
